We’ll Review Your Case

Have you been caught driving on a suspended licence or with an unregistered vehicle? Did you recently lose your licence due to low-range drink driving? Traffic violations are one of the most commonly prosecuted offences in Australia—sometimes you may receive a ticket depending on the offence, other times the ramifications might be more serious. So, what do you do if you want to fight a ticket, contest a charge in court or have your licence reinstated so you can get to work? Well, firstly you’ll need a good solicitor.

When you want to fight against a traffic violation, you’ll need to dispute it in court. At Bradley Solicitors, our traffic lawyers provide advice and representation for clients when going through the court process—whether you’re contesting a charge, or the charges placed upon you mean you’re compelled to appear in court.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I dispute a traffic infringement in the Northern Territory?

If you want to dispute a traffic fine, you can do so by lodging a notice of objection with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. You will need to include your name, address, and contact details, as well as the reasons why you are objecting to the fine. Once your objection has been lodged, a decision will be made as to whether or not the fine will be upheld.

  • Does traffic law vary state by state in Australia?

Yes, traffic law does vary from state to state in Australia. Each state has both, its own specific traffic laws and also laws under the Commonwealth which have been adopted by the states, which must be followed by all drivers. If you are driving in a different state to the one in which you are licensed, it is important that you familiarise yourself with the traffic laws of that state.

  • What happens when I lose all my driver’s licence demerit points in the Northern Territory?

If you lose all your demerit points, your licence will be suspended for 3 months. However, if you accumulate more than 12 demerit points within a 3 year period, your licence will be suspended for 12 months. But there is also a ‘double or nothing’, system that may keep you on the road, we can help you decide, if this applies to you, if you should take up this option.

  • Can I get a temporary driver’s licence if my licence has been suspended in the Northern Territory?

The Northern Territory does not have a work licence system in place. However, if you can demonstrate that you have a genuine need for a licence, such as being employed in an essential services job that requires you to drive, and the Court has the power, you may still keep your licence.
